The day began with a standing ceremony on the first floor, followed by an open-kitchen reception upstairs. Inspired by Monet’s garden, the wedding design introduced soft, pastel colours into Richmond Station’s warm and character-filled interior.
With its intimate bar, cozy booths, dark wood, and museum-like photographs covering the walls, Richmond Station already has so much personality. The space felt warm, layered, and inviting, creating a beautiful setting for both candid moments and editorial wedding photographs.
We photographed the day using a mix of digital and 35mm film, bringing additional lighting to complement the restaurant’s atmosphere while preserving its natural warmth.

Guests gathered closely around the couple for a standing ceremony on the first floor of Richmond Station.
Without traditional rows of chairs separating everyone, the ceremony felt intimate and connected. The couple exchanged their vows surrounded by the expressions and reactions of their closest family and friends.
Richmond Station’s warm bar, dark wood, cozy booths, and collection of framed photographs gave the ceremony so much character. The walls have an almost museum-like quality, creating a setting that felt layered and personal rather than like a traditional wedding venue.
We brought additional lighting to complement the restaurant’s atmosphere and create flattering photographs while preserving its natural warmth.
A Monet’s Garden-Inspired Wedding Colour Palette
The wedding’s Monet-inspired colour palette appeared throughout the day, from the bouquet and floral details to the guests’ outfits.
Soft blues, greens, lilacs, pinks, and warm garden tones brought a painterly feeling to the celebration. Against Richmond Station’s dark wood and warm interior, the colours felt especially vibrant without becoming too formal.
The palette also photographed beautifully on 35mm film, which added softness, texture, and richness to the bouquet, clothing, and smaller details throughout the day.

A May thunderstorm passed through downtown Toronto during the wedding, making Richmond Station feel even warmer and more inviting.
The restaurant offered plenty of variety for indoor wedding portraits. We photographed the couple around the bar, inside the booths, beside the windows, and against the walls filled with framed photographs.
Each area had its own personality while still feeling connected to the overall story of the wedding. The booths created relaxed, intimate portraits, while the bar and artwork-covered walls gave us a more editorial setting.
Staying inside also allowed the couple to remain close to their guests instead of spending a large part of the celebration travelling between portrait locations.
An Open-Kitchen Wedding Reception
After the ceremony, everyone moved upstairs for an intimate wedding reception beside Richmond Station’s open kitchen.
The open kitchen made dinner feel like part of the experience. Guests could see the movement and energy behind each course as the meal was prepared, plated, and brought into the dining room.
For this couple, food was not simply another part of the wedding timeline. It was one of the highlights of the celebration.
The reception felt like an elevated dinner party, with beautiful food, thoughtful conversation, emotional speeches, and plenty of laughter between courses. From a photography perspective, the open kitchen also created so many interesting moments. We documented chefs preparing each course, carefully plated dishes, guests experiencing the meal, glasses being raised, and conversations unfolding around the tables.
